Once upon a time, you had to have either a solid fid to measure each length for splicing double braid, or to measure from a chart with a ruler. With the fid-gauge ruler, all the short and long fid lengths for line up to half-inch are printed on one handy, self-adhesive strip. Marked in inches as well, it can be stuck to the bench where you splice, or adhered to a piece of batten to make it portable. Ideally, you have these all over the place, so you’re never caught unprepared.
Ideal for the rigger who prefers a pull-fid for splicing double-braid, which, let’s face it, is faster and more efficient, and with some of the pre-stretched modern DB ropes, necessary.
